Do you need to have an eye examination but not sure what to expect? Or have you had one before and would like more information about each step? We have written a guide to explain each stage of your eye examination, so you know what to expect when you visit.
Pre-Screening
When you arrive for your eye examination, a member of our team will check you in and take you through for your pre-screening. The level of eye examination you have chosen will determine what is included.
All our eye examinations include Optomap imaging. The Optomap is a non-invasive scanner that examines and photographs up to 80% of the retina. These images are an important tool for screening and diagnosing a range of eye conditions.
Another important piece of equipment we use in pre-screening is the OCT – Optical Coherence Tomography. The OCT uses light waves to take cross section images of the retina, providing images showing the distinctive layers of the retina and allowing our Optometrists to map and measure their thickness. These measurements are essential for the early detection, diagnosis and treatment guidance for retinal diseases and conditions, more specifically age-related macular degeneration, diabetic eye disease and Glaucoma among others.
Eye Examination
Once your pre-screening is completed, you will be seen by the Optometrist. At this stage the Optometrist will go through the results of the images taken at pre-screening, discussing the health of your eyes shown by the images. Your eye examination will then be carried out, updating your prescription by assessing your ability to read the Snellen chart with different lenses in front of your eyes. An anterior assessment will also be carried out checking the health of the surface of your eyes. Once the eye examination is finished, you will be passed onto a member of our dispensing team to discuss new spectacles.
Choosing Your New Glasses
If a new prescription is required, or you simply want to update your glasses, one of our Dispensing Opticians or Optical Advisors will assist you with choosing a new pair. They will be able to offer advice on the fit of your glasses, styles and shapes that suit you, and the best lenses available to meet your needs.
You will be invited back to collect your glasses when they are ready, where the fit and position of your glasses will be checked before you take them home.
